Christian Giving

Christian giving refers to the voluntary generosity of Christians toward God's work and toward people in need. It is not a fee, a subscription or a payment for a religious service. Scripture describes it as something decided freely — each person giving what they have resolved in their heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion (2 Corinthians 9:6–8).

In practice, Christian giving can include:

• supporting local churches
• supporting missionaries and mission workers
• supporting evangelism
• supporting Christian education
• helping vulnerable families
• supporting humanitarian and compassionate work
• helping Christian organisations carry out their stated missions
• giving time and professional skills
• praying for ministry and for the people it serves

It is worth saying plainly that Christian giving is broader than money. A believer who prays consistently, teaches a class, offers a professional skill or opens their home is giving in a way the New Testament recognises. Jesus also taught that giving is directed toward God rather than performed for recognition (Matthew 6:1–4), which is one reason much Christian generosity is never publicly counted.

Much Christian giving is directed toward mission activity. Depending on the organisation and context, support can help enable evangelism, discipleship, church planting, leadership training, Bible teaching, Christian education, pastoral ministry and compassionate outreach.

Financial support is one way Christians participate in mission. Prayer, relationships, volunteering, sharing ministry stories and church partnerships can also play an important role — and in many cases they are what sustains the financial support over time.

People interested in Christian ministry in Pakistan may support work involving Gospel proclamation, discipleship, pastor and evangelist training, church planting, children's programmes, women's support, care for vulnerable families, community outreach and practical assistance.

No single ministry does all of these things, and organisations differ in size, emphasis and method. It is reasonable to ask a specific organisation which of these it actually carries out, and where.

Depending on an organisation's needs, support may contribute to ministry resources, transportation, training, outreach, educational activities, community programmes, administrative needs and other legitimate costs associated with carrying out the mission.
